Tips for writing a great description.
Remember that potential buyers have only two sources of information to
influence their decision to bid or not to bid on your item: a photograph and
the item description.
We suggest you write your description in
Word or another program that includes an editor such as Spell Check and
Grammar Check before posting your item. After writing the description have
a second party read it to check for spelling errors, grammar errors, and
readability.
Here are some things
you should consider when writing your item description.
-
What is the item?
-
What materials is it made
of?
-
When was it made? Is
there an expiration date?
-
Is it new or used?
-
What
company/designer/author made it?
-
What condition is it in?
Be honest. Remember the winning bidder will see the product. Is the
item used, new, still under warranty? Be sure to mention any flaws or damage.
-
If the item is donated
include a mention of who donated it.
-
For electronics, games,
computer accessories, tools, etc. include any system requirements or restrictions.
-
Check out company websites
for product descriptions and statistics.
Remember to tell the bidder
where to pick up the item or how much shipping will be.
Do not:
-
Include anything that
you are not sure is true. If you are not positive of a fact do not include it, or
tell readers that you are not sure.
-
Lie about or exaggerate the
condition of the item.
